Castle Room News

Our Fortnight Focus in the Castle Class will be Understanding the World as we consider differences and similarities in ourselves and our friends, using mirrors to key into features of our faces and looking at how we can mix the colours we need for ourselves. We will also be looking at the clear signs of spring as the minibeasts emerge and we begin to plant our seeds.

Over the holiday we had a classroom change around so we will be taking some time to get used to the new layout and exploring how we can combine our small world, small construction, blocks and transportation to create new worlds!

In the Roleplay Area, we will be creating a pet shop in which we will be thinking about all the information we will be learning from our Book of the Week, as we consider what we need to buy to look after our pets. We will take on the role of the shopkeeper and the customers, ensuring that the right amount of money is given as payment.

On the Mark Making Table, we will be writing our pet certificates, naming the pets, describing their appearance as well as drawing them. We will be writing down their likes and dislikes, what they eat and and any important facts about our pets.

Our pop up Book of the Week display will look at our Castle Class pets, displaying our friends we have shared on Tapestry, alongside their name and animal. We will be looking to see if we can find our own pets and comparing the different animals that are on show.

In the Outdoors we will be beginning by planting our sunflowers as we look closely at what sunflowers need to thrive and carefully place the seeds to have space between them. We will water them and consider the placement to ensure that they get enough sunlight! We will compare the different seeds for the sunflowers and predicting what they will look like as they grow.

On the Creative Table we will be looking closely at ourselves and our friends as we look at our similarities and differences. We will work on a one to one basis with Mrs Thompson as we use mirrors and use different mediums to create portraits. We will consider the different colours we need, mixing them to change the shade of the colours.

We will also be making a giant springtime picture, mixing paints to recreate the colours of spring and using our knowledge from the observational paintings of the daffodils to paint a variety of flowers for our spring garden painting.

Our first Book of the Week is a non-fiction book where we will look closely at animals that we look after as pets. We will learn key facts about the different animals and focus in on the children's pets at home. Thank you to those who were able to post a photo about their pets, we have created a display of all our animals on the Book of the Week display.

Our Book of the Week for the second week will be 'The Suitcase', a story about someone who has had to move and has kept his whole world in a single suitcase. He tells everyone that his home is in there but nobody believes him, what will the animals find when they take a look. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2we1wwpPxU
