Our focused song for the next two weeks is called, ‘There’s a tiny caterpillar on a leaf’ https://youtu.be/0YK_c2RTQsw?feature=shared we will be using makaton and props to teach the song to the children to help them understand the learning behind the song.

Over the last couple of weeks, at group time, the children have been learning about the properties of shapes, ‘round for a circle and curved’ and for squares knowing they have ‘sides and edges’. They have been exploring shape in the music room, doing obstacle courses, matching shapes, shape hunts and bean bag sorting. This week they are exploring circles and squares in dough and paint.

Our focused learning inside and outside this week is shape. We have set up enhancements to support the learning at the play dough table, paint area, water and outside, there are circle and square bean bags, hoops and different shapes on the ground for the children to match and learn about size and moving in different ways from one thing to another. There will also be water mark making available for the children to explore shape like we did in the orchard. They will be able to use bigger brushes than inside and sticks to make marks to create circles and squares.

Next week, our focused learning for 2 weeks, will be understanding the world to link with the learning from the hungry caterpillar for them to know and learn ‘that caterpillars change into a butterfly’.
