EXPLORERS' NEWS

Week commencing 6th May

Our focused story for the next two weeks is called, ‘The Three Billy Goats gruff’. Trip, trap, trip, trap”, “Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?”. A lovely engaging story with lots of repeated refrains for the children to learn and say in their play. The three goats want to get over to the other side of the bridge where the grass is sweet and delicious or chew, but under the bridge lives a big bad troll who wants to gobble them up!
We will teach it with just props while telling the story for 3 days, before then introducing the book, reading it, then doing colourful semantics, sequencing of the story using pictures and finally recalling and drawing the story together!

Our focused words are:
Troll
Bridge
Over
Under
Goat

Our focused song is called, ‘London Bridge’. We will be singing this over a 2-week period as there is a lot of pre-teaching before we start to sing the song. We will be looking at images of London Bridge, Tower Bridge, and more local ones, such as the Humber and High Bridge in Lincoln town centre. Unfortunately, we cannot go visit a real bridge to embed the learning from the story, so we will be showing the children videos to help support the learning. We will be watching Tower Bridge opening and closing, and videos of other bridges seeing whether they go over train tracks, roads or rivers!
