Castle Room News

Over the next fortnight in Castle Class we will continue our focus on mathematical patterns as we develop our fine motor skills alongside.

Ramadan Mubarak to our families that celebrate! On the Outdoor Creative Table we will be creating decorative lanterns as we learn about the special time of year, Ramadan! We will use marks to decorate our papers and use scissors to snip and cut the lines through our lanterns. We will practice tearing the masking tape to join the ends of our creations together!

In the Mud Kitchen we will be using scissors, tweezers, pipettes and syringes to create our own potion recipes. We will snip, slice, scrape, squeeze, pinch and more to prepare the ingredients we need. We will consider closely how we have prepared our ingredients and mark make the recipe on blackboards, so our friends can follow along with the recipe.

In the Creative Area we will be continuing our observational paintings of the daffodils in small group trips. We will use these observations to bring back to the classroom to create a daffodil garden canvas.

We will also be exploring sewing, using different threads and ribbons to sew flowers onto hessian, looking closely at how we place the needles and how we move them in and out of the materials to create continuous or separate threads. We will use positional language to describe the placement and discuss the colours and patterns created by the needles as we discuss the portrait or horizontal nature and the shapes we create with different 'techniques'.

In the Water Tray we will be experimenting with food colour as we use pipettes and syringes to introduce small amounts of colour to the water and use different tools to swirl and mix the colours through the water. We will talk about the pull and sucking up of the colour and how we push it out as we 'release' the colour!

On the Malleable and Marking Making Table we have added marking cards to encourage the children to replicate the marks either with a pen or by shaping and moulding the dough to match the marks.

Our first Book of the Week is Giraffes Can't Dance, where our main character Gerald is nervous and embarrassed about his inability to dance. When his friends all laugh at him, what ever will he do? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQMDaPRhA0I

Our second Book of the Week is Mr Macgregor's Breakfast Egg, the story of a farmer who can't start his day without his breakfast egg, but there is a traffic jam blocking the way. Hopefully they can sort it out!
