EXPLORERS' NEWS

Week commencing 18th March.

Our focused stories for the next two weeks are called, ‘Jaspers beanstalk’ & ‘Jack and the beanstalk’. Both stories will be introduced and taught using props first, before we introduce the book and other activities such as colourful semantics, helicopter stories and drawing the story. Children will have real experiences of planting beans, learning what helps them grow and how to keep them alive. We will start by putting them in clear bags in the window, spraying them daily with water and observing the growth. We will teach the children new vocabulary such as root, shoot, leaves and stalk. Once they start to grow, we will plant them in the soil in clear plastic bottles, so we can continue to see the growth of the bean bringing in mathematical language such as short, tall, shortest, tallest, small, big, smallest, biggest. Here is a link to the story for you to watch with your child at home https://youtu.be/23INhyreb8M?si=x3dQN_9R4H76GYAN

Our focused song this week is called 'I dig my garden', and next week it is called 'Farmer plants the seeds'. Here are the links to the songs, please listen to them with your child to help them learn and sing the songs. https://youtu.be/OzYEAYr4AIg?si=lUIwUi4viXK-yUgq  https://youtu.be/cRhGOdqWIIo?si=fgW2LzuoisGsSUco

Our focused learning for the next two weeks is focused on maths. We are focusing on size, measurement, capacity, counting, encouraging numbers within mark making and subitising.
Areas of the classroom have been enhanced with resources to support the mathematical learning that we want to teach children and learn.
